Great Neck, NY – Garfunkel Wild, P.C. (GW) is pleased to announce that attorney Barry B. Cepelewicz, M.D., has been named a partner of the firm.   Mr. Cepelewicz joins GW — a firm recognized for its pre-eminence in representation of the healthcare industry — working primarily in its Connecticut office, as well as in its New York office.  Mr. Cepelewicz holds dual degrees in law and medicine, providing a unique perspective to providers, including physicians and hospitals, on healthcare-related matters.

Prior to joining GW, Mr. Cepelewicz was Partner and Chair of the Health Care Group at Meiselman, Denlea, Packman, Carton & Eberz P.C., having been with the firm since 1998.  Previously, he was associated with Proskauer Rose, LLP, Cummings & Lockwood, and Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom.  For over two decades, he has represented healthcare-related entities in transactional, regulatory, and litigation matters, including creating large single and multi-specialty group practices and other joint ventures, and successfully defending providers in state and federal investigations.  He is also considered an authority in telemedicine.

Mr. Cepelewicz has served as General Counsel to medical societies, hospitals’ medical staffs, healthcare businesses and start-up companies.  He also lectures extensively to physicians, including at CME programs.  Mr. Cepelewicz  publishes extensively in professional journals and he is an Editorial Consultant for Medical Economics.   He has repeatedly been recognized as a “Super Lawyer” in Health Care and has been an active member in professional associations, including the American Health Lawyers’ Association, the Connecticut Bar Association, the American Telemedicine Association, the New York State Bar Association and the Westchester County Bar Association.

“This appointment reflects our firm’s continued commitment to recruit strong leaders in our various practice groups,” noted GW Founding Partner and Chairman Robert Wild.  “With his outstanding reputation, knowledge, and expertise in the health care arena, Barry brings significant value to the firm, especially at a time of great change in our nation’s health care system.”

“I’ve built my career working with healthcare providers and GW has an exceptionally strong track record in the healthcare industry,” said Partner Barry Cepelewicz.  “I am delighted to join GW and am eager to begin working with my respected colleagues in serving clients in these ever-changing times.  Also, living in Connecticut for nearly 20 years has afforded me the ability to be especially aware of the particular needs of the Connecticut healthcare community.”

Mr. Cepelewicz holds a B.A., magna cum laude, from New York University, M.D. from Mount Sinai School of Medicine, and J.D. from New York University School of Law.  He is admitted to the bar in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, District of Columbia, and the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, District of Connecticut, Second Circuit Court of Appeals, and Supreme Court of the United States.
