The Suffolk Cooperative Library System (SCLS) – an umbrella
organization for the 56 public libraries of Suffolk County, NY.

Challenge
To raise public awareness and use of the extensive free online
resources available to Suffolk County public library patrons,
particularly live tutoring help and downloadable entertainment.

Epoch 5 Strategy
Epoch 5 suggested that Suffolk County consolidate its online sites into one ‘digital branch’ – a platform for one-stop
access to the online resources through a single portal. Epoch 5:
• Created the name and the site, www.live-brary.com;
• Established a graphics identity package that included the logo, slogan, and images;
• Provided marketing and outreach support that included a social media presence and advertising program;
• Coordinated a highly visible launch event for www.live-brary.com with all Suffolk County public libraries involved
on a selected day;
• Generated extensive print, broadcast and online media coverage.

Impact
The weekly number of online visits by library patrons spiked by 449.51% following the launch of
Live-brary.com.

The Suffolk Cooperative Library System experienced a surge in the public’s access of online resources, including live tutoring help, downloadable entertainment, e-books, career services, language programs and more.

A new audience base was established through social media, via Facebook, YouTube, blogging and Twitter.

Following launch date, Epoch 5 kept public awareness and interest alive through extensive media coverage from television, radio, Long Island’s regional daily newspaper, as well as community weeklies, and online outlets.
