Q&A with Peggy Kalia

Account Manager, Media Specialist

Any media hits that stand out for you?

What’s most exciting for me is working each year with the high school kids appearing on The Challenge, a TV quiz show produced by our client, MSG Varsity. The students are great young people from throughout the tristate… smart, witty, entertaining … and when I place the winning team on a show like Fox News, it’s very exciting for them and me! It makes all those endless calls and email pitches to producers worthwhile.

What drove you to PR?

I love interacting with all types of people and in PR you meet exciting, interesting men and women just about every day. I’ve worked with clients in fields ranging from high fashion to education to health care. Each is unique and offers its own set of opportunities.

What do you do for fun when you’re not working?

In my free time, I love going to classical concerts (Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring is my favorite piece) and reading (right now I’m hooked on the Stieg Larsson trilogy). I also love to travel, especially to out-of-the-way places. Probably the most unusual places I’ve been are Transylvania and a Hindu temple in northern India that is actually run by distant relatives of my husband.

What talent do you wish you had?

In my next life, I’d love to be a classical musician — a violinist or cellist up there on the stage with the New York Philharmonic. The musicians I know are a passionate, dedicated lot. I just love the fact that music can have a positive effect on just about anyone, from a young child in the heartland of America to a senior citizen in China. It’s something we all have in common.
