LinkedIn TodayCorporate communications, marketing and public relations professionals are constantly hunting for helpful industry news and the latest marketing tools.  In addition to traditional sources, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other social media offer new channels to tap into current news and trends.

Now, there’s another way to get news that leverages the interests of others in your professional community and what they are reading and sharing. LinkedIn recently announced the launch of LinkedIn Today, its social media platform that delivers news and updates based on what your industry peers and connections are interested in.

Described by socialmediaexaminer.com as a “social news source,” users can login to their LinkedIn account and get today’s news based on their industry preferences and connections.

LinkedIn Today delivers industry news in three, customized ways, described in LinkedIn’s product announcement:

  1. What your connections and coworkers are sharing
For example, if you are connected to a coworker from a certain Long Island Public Relations firm, chances are, you and that individual share the same interest in Public Relations. LinkedIn Today recognizes what your connections are sharing and highlights stories that are relevant to you.
  2.  What your industry peers are sharing
Many people who use LinkedIn are interested in one industry but pay attention to news across multiple industries, such as a publicist, or someone who manages many different types of clients. LinkedIn Today sends users weekly emails highlighting top industry headlines across the industries you follow.
  3. What stories are interesting to a wider audience, outside of your industry
LinkedIn Today offers you the ability to find a story that interests you and provides insight to other industries and users who are interested and sharing that same story. This feature can be customized and tailored to your specific wants and needs.
