Bethpage, NY – King Kullen, America’s First Supermarket, recently announced that it will again sponsor the Empire Games for the Physically Challenged, to be held this year May 31-June 2 at Nassau Community College.
At a recent press conference at the Henry Viscardi School in Albertson, NY, King Kullen Vice President of Store Operations Tony Femminella joined Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano to announce the sponsorship. The Empire Games lost NYS funding last year and Nassau County Executive Mangano has assumed the challenge of keeping the Games alive by reaching out for private-sector sponsorships and public support.
At the event, Mr. Femminella spoke about King Kullen’s support of the Games as a food sponsor since the Games’ inception in 1985 and the company’s continued commitment to the over 1,000 athletes with disabilities who come to Long Island to compete in swimming, wheelchair basketball, and table tennis, among other sports.
Headquartered in Bethpage, New York, King Kullen Grocery Co., Inc. is recognized by the Smithsonian Institution as American’s first supermarket. Founded in 1930 by Michael J. Cullen, King Kullen today operates 42 supermarkets and four Wild by Nature stores across Long Island.
