Great Neck, NYGarfunkel Wild, P.C. (GW) is pleased to announce that partner/director Roy W. Breitenbach has been selected by Long Island Business News (LIBN) to the “Around 50” Class of 2014. An awards dinner at the Crest Hollow County Club in Woodbury, NY, last evening honored those individuals and firms selected.

The LIBN “Around 50” awards program recognizes dynamic professional men and women who are dedicated to the success of companies and organizations on Long Island, as well as to the well-being of the local communities throughout Nassau and Suffolk. Awardees are selected by a panel of business and community leaders based on the nominee’s business acumen and community involvement.

Chair of the firm’s Antitrust Practice Group, as well as Co-Chair of the Litigation & Arbitration Group and a member of the Employment Law Group, Mr. Breitenbach represents health care providers, business entities, and individuals involved in antitrust or other disputes with competitors, “business divorces,” employment disputes, complex commercial and real estate disputes, healthcare reimbursement disputes, and will contests.

Mr. Breitenbach has extensive civil trial and arbitration experience. He was in the news earlier this year when he represented two medical associations challenging United Healthcare’s termination of over 2500 physicians as participating providers in United’s Medicare Advantage plans. He obtained a federal court injunction staying the termination until the physicians had the opportunity to fully contest the terminations through appeal and arbitration processes. Through the years he has tried (both jury and non-jury) and arbitrated numerous matters involving antitrust, restrictive covenant, exclusive contract, business dissolution and liquidation, employment disputes, health care reimbursement, breach-of-contract, breach-of-fiduciary duty, real estate, commercial, medical staff privilege, civil rights, trusts and estates, and bankruptcy issues.

Mr. Breitenbach has given generously of his time to help support numerous community and religious activities. He has been an active member of the Order of Malta since 2007 and participated in a pilgrimage to Lourdes where he (and his wife) served as caregivers for individuals unable to manage on their own. He has also served as a baseball and basketball coach with the Huntington Sports League and an assistant travel coach with the Cold Spring Harbor/Huntington Soccer Club. He is actively involved in Boy Scouting as a Cub Scout Packmaster, Matinecock District Merit Badge Counselor, and a member of both the Boy Scout Troop Committee for Troop 78, Huntington, and the Cub Scout Pack Committee for Pack 178, Huntington. A resident of Huntington, he is a Member, Secretary, and Finance Committee Chair of the School Board for St. Patrick’s School in Huntington.

Mr. Breitenbach is admitted to practice law in the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Southern, Northern, and Western Districts of New York and the District of Connecticut; as well as all New York and Connecticut state courts. He practices extensively with the United States Provider Reimbursement Review Board and has been admitted to practice pro hac vice in New Jersey federal and state courts as well as federal courts located in Rhode Island, Florida, and Kentucky. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, the Connecticut Bar Association, the Nassau County Bar Association, the American Health Lawyers Association, and the Health Care Financial Management Association.

Mr. Breitenbach received his B.A. (summa cum laude) from St. John’s University and his J.D. (cum laude) from St. John’s Law School in 1991. He has written numerous professional articles in key legal and health publications, including the New York Law Journal, Journal of the American College of Radiology and Connecticut Law Tribune. He is also a frequent lecturer and participant in legal and healthcare-related seminars and webinars.
