Adelphi University President Dr. Robert A. Scott’s public affairs broadcast series Exploring Critical Issues — a 2013 MarCom Gold Award winner in Critical Regional Public Policy Issues (Broadcast & Cable) Campaign — takes a look at economic demarcations in latest program
Uniondale, NY… Exploring Critical Issues, the 2013 MarCom Gold Award televised series hosted and conceived by Adelphi University President Robert A. Scott, returns for its 10th year on the air with a discussion by expert panelists on the increasingly distinct economies found in America. “The Three Economies of America” airs over two weeks, beginning Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 10:00 PM.
“Inspired by a friend’s observation of America’s segmented economies – shareholder, middle class and underserved — I brought together regional leaders and thinkers to consider where our nation is headed,” said Dr. Scott. “I am glad of the opportunity to share this important exchange with our viewers.”
The ‘three economies’ are described as 1. Shareholders – those who are able to participate in the financial markets and benefit from investment appreciation and dividends; 2. Middle Class – those who must ‘earn’ and have seen earning power stagnate; 3. Safety Net – those dependent upon assistance, from food stamps to food pantries. These are not only seniors living on fixed income or the unemployed, but include workers for whom hourly wages are simply not sufficient to cover costs of rent, healthcare, or education.
Joining Dr. Scott on the program are: Long Island Cares Inc. — The Harry Chapin Food Bank Executive Director Paule Pachter; Adelphi University Robert B. Willumstad School of Business Professor of Economics Dr. Mariano Torras; Adelphi University Robert B. Willumstad School of Business Clinical Assistant Professor of Finance Michael J. Driscoll; and Stony Brook University Economics and Preventive Medicine Professor Dr. John A. Rizzo, recently appointed Chief Economist of the Long Island Association.
