Best Legacy Businesses 2025 edition

Long Island Business News recently saluted “the pillars of Long Island’s business community” in its Best Legacy Businesses 2025 edition. Epoch 5 was honored to be included alongside this year’s prestigious organizations. Following is a Q&A between Epoch 5 President Katherine Heaviside and the publication’s editorial team.

What inspired the founding of your company, and what was its original mission?

I founded Epoch 5 Marketing Public & Relations because of a real need for strategic, high-impact communications that not only build brands but also create meaningful connections. From the start, our mission has been to build and protect clients’ reputations and drive business success. We blend creativity with strategy to help clients navigate challenges, seize opportunities, and grow in an ever-changing business and media landscape. It’s always been about making an impact — for our clients and their customers.

What were the most significant milestones or turning points in the company’s 25+ years in business?

Epoch 5 has had so many meaningful milestones over the years, but a few stand out. Winning the National Silver Anvil Award was a proud moment—it put us on the map locally and nationally. Bringing in top NYC talent who wanted to work closer to home strengthened our team and deepened our expertise. But what’s most special is growing alongside our clients. Companies like Four Leaf Federal Credit Union and Daniel Gale Sotheby’s started with us when they were smaller, and we’ve had the privilege of supporting their incredible journeys. That kind of long-term partnership is what makes our work so rewarding.

How have your core values and vision influenced the way your company operates?

Our core values shape everything we do. Integrity means building strong, lasting relationships based on trust and transparency. Excellence pushes us to go above and beyond for our clients, ensuring the highest quality in everything we deliver. Innovation keeps us forward-thinking—we embrace creativity and adapt to an ever-changing market. These values aren’t just words; they guide how we work, how we support our clients, and how we grow as a team. They fuel our passion for making a real impact and help us stay true to our vision every step of the way.

How has your company adapted to industry changes or economic challenges over the years?

We’ve always embraced change as both a challenge and an opportunity. The shift from traditional to digital and social media pushed us to evolve, finding new ways to help our clients reach their audiences. It’s made us more creative and strategic in how we communicate. During COVID, when some clients paused their marketing and PR, our crisis management expertise became more crucial than ever. We were there to guide them through uncertainty, reinforcing our role as trusted advisors. Regardless of the changes, our focus remains the same—helping clients adapt, thrive, and share their stories in meaningful ways.
