Focus on Higher Education & Affordability to air in NY and CT on Cablevision 29 and 137 and FiOS 296; and streaming simultaneously at www.telecaretv.org
Uniondale, NY – The award-winning series, Exploring Critical Issues, conceived and hosted by Adelphi University President Robert A. Scott, is scheduled to broadcast its focus on “Higher Education & Affordability” for two weeks beginning April 28.
Dr. Scott is charged with oversight of Adelphi University’s programs serving over 8,000 students from 41 states and 60 foreign countries at Adelphi’s main campus in Garden City and additional campus locations in Manhattan, Hauppauge and Poughkeepsie. A champion of the advantages of higher education for preparing future professionals and active citizens, he also considers the costs and evolving role of colleges and universities in such essays as “The Modern American University: A Love Story” — available to readers online at http://administration.adelphi.edu/president/pdfs/012111.pdf.
“Educators and policy experts talk about “access,” “affordability,” and “accountability” in higher education,” said Dr. Scott. “But, in these challenging economic times, society is questioning the cost of education, rising family debt, and uncertain employment opportunities.”
Joining Dr. Scott in a discussion of the merits, the costs and the outcomes of higher education, are: Dr. Donald Astrab, President, Nassau Community College; Ms. Lisa Pamintuan, President, New York College of Health Professions; Dr. Jack Bierwirth, Superintendent, Herricks Public Schools; Ms. Sheryl Mihopulos, Executive Director, Student Financial Services, Adelphi University.
The hour-long “Higher Education & Affordability” broadcast will air over two weeks, beginning April 28 as follows: Saturdays, April 28 and May 5 at 10:30 p.m.; Sundays, April 29 and May 6 at 7:00 a.m.; Mondays, April 30 and May 7 at 10:30 p.m.; and Fridays, May 4 and May 11 at 1:00 p.m. “Higher Education & Affordability” can be viewed on Cablevision channels 29 (Long Island) and 137 (Connecticut and NY area outside of Long Island), Verizon FiOS channel 296 (including NY and Fairfield, CT) and simultaneously online at www.telecaretv.org.
Seen by over seven million households, Exploring Critical Issues has earned three Telly Awards, the cable equivalent of the Emmy.
